It's my birthday today. That's why I'm here, instead of wandering around. I wanted to see Mummy and Daddy.

Look at them. They aren't even celebrating. They're not having fun, and birthdays are supposed to be fun. Instead, Mummy's all upset and Daddy's trying not to be upset in front of Mummy, like he's embarrassed. But when he's on his own, he cries like she does.

They used to talk to me - tell me things. Little things. Like what was on the news and that Kerry down the road has got a new red tricycle. I wanted a red tricycle so much. Daddy said I could have one when I wake up, but the doctor said I might never wake up.
I'm scared.
I want Mummy to tell me that everything will be O.K., but she doesn't say anything any more. It's like someone turned the sound off on the telly. Or something.

It is nice here though. It's quiet. And nobody shouts. But there aren't many children. No one to play with. No one to be my friend.
And one of the adults told me that what the doctor said was true, and that if I stay here for too long, I'll never be able to go back, no matter how much I want to. I do want to! I want Mummy to look after me and tell me that she loves me and I want Daddy to play with me and read me stories before bed...

I'm going to stay here now. I'm going to keep watching them. I don't want to leave them.
I wish I could speak to them.
I wish they could hear me.
Mock exams this week.

No, that isn't an instruction.

We did our drama 'mock' yesterday, for which we had to write and perform a monologue (based on the theme our teacher gave us). We wrote the monologues before the exam, so we could rehearse and sort out props/lighting etc.

Props: a single red balloon (99 would have taken too long to blow up) on a red ribbon.

Lighting: a white spot with blue/green lighting around the outside.

Other stuff: In addition to the prop and lighting, I had a few people in a still image at the centre of the stage. One to lie on a 'bed', one to be the mother (she was sat on a chair next to the 'bed' ) and one to be the father (he was stood behind the mother with his hand on her shoulder).

I'm quite pleased with how it went. It was well recieved by the audience, anyway.
